Anyone providing care and supervision for four (4) or more children, under age 7 years, for less than 24 hours a day must be certified/licensed by the Department of Children and Families.
Family child care providers offer care for children in their home. There are two types of regulation for family child care providers:
May care for up to 6 children (actual number will depend on the number of children under age 2).
May care for up to 8 children (actual number will depend on the number of children under age 2).
Licensed child care centers care for nine or more children in a group setting located somewhere other than a residence and may be small or large in size.
